Terms of Service

Using Sorrel

These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of the Sorrel app ("Sorrel", "we", "us"). They cover the Sorrel apps for Android and iPhone, the browser extension, connections to AI assistants, the Sorrel server and this website. By using any of them you agree to these terms; if you do not agree, please do not use Sorrel. You must be at least 13 years old, or the age at which you can agree to terms like these where you live.

Your account

Sorrel works without an account. Turning on sync creates one, either anonymous or tied to your Google or Apple sign-in. You are responsible for the devices signed in to it and for the codes and invitations you hand out: anyone you give a connection code or a household invitation to gets the access it grants. If you think someone has access who should not, remove them in Settings or write to us.

Your recipes are yours

Everything you put into Sorrel stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and transmit it only as far as running the features you use requires: reading a page, video or photo you send, syncing your devices, sharing with your household, serving a share link you made, and answering an assistant you connected. We do not sell it and do not use it to train AI models. How your data is handled is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Recipes from other places

When you import a recipe from a website, a video, a photo or a file, Sorrel makes a personal copy for your own cooking. The original still belongs to whoever made it. You are responsible for having the right to import what you import, and for what you do with it afterwards, including share links: do not share what you have no right to share. If a rights holder tells us a shared link infringes their rights, we may remove it.

Check before you cook

Imported recipes are read by software, and some of them by an AI model. Quantities, times, temperatures, nutrition figures, ingredient swaps and safety notes can be wrong or missing. Nothing in Sorrel is medical, dietary or food-safety advice. Compare a recipe with its source when it matters, and use your own judgement, above all for allergies and safe cooking temperatures.

Sorrel Pro

Sorrel Pro is an optional subscription. You buy it through Google Play or the App Store, and that store handles payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds under its own terms. The price, and any free trial, are shown before you buy. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in the store's subscription settings; uninstalling the app does not cancel it. The features in Sorrel Pro may change over time, and what is free stays usable without a subscription.

Apple and Google are not parties to these terms. They are not responsible for Sorrel or for supporting it, and your use of their stores is governed by their own terms.

Connected assistants and the browser extension

When you connect ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant, it can read and change the parts of your account listed on the connection page, until you disconnect it in Settings. The assistant is run by another company under its own terms. We are not responsible for what it does with what it reads, or for the answers it gives you.

Fair use

Do not use Sorrel to break the law, try to reach another person's account, probe or overload the server, run automated or bulk imports through it, resell the service, or get around the subscription check. Imports that use our server are limited per day. We may limit or suspend access for anyone who does these things.

Stopping

You can stop using Sorrel at any time, and you can delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or end your access to the server if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms; the recipes on your own device stay there. We may also change or retire a feature, or Sorrel as a whole. If the service is ever closed, we will give notice where we reasonably can so that you can export your recipes first.

No warranty

Sorrel is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that an imported recipe will be accurate or complete.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss or for lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Sorrel Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits a right you have under consumer law that cannot be waived, or a liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them, and a material change is also noted in the app's release notes. If you keep using Sorrel after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
