Delete your Sorrel account
Sorrel only has an account if you turned on sync. If you never did, there is nothing on our server to delete: your recipes live on your phone, and uninstalling Sorrel clears them from it. The only other copy is one Android's Auto Backup may keep in your own Google account; how to remove that is covered further down. If you did turn sync on, here is how to erase the account and everything stored under it.
From inside the app
This is the complete deletion, it takes effect immediately, and a subscription that has lapsed never stands in its way.
- Open Sorrel and go to ⋮ → Settings.
- Scroll down to Your data.
- Tap Delete account and synced data, then confirm.
The account is gone by the time the confirmation closes. Every phone signed in to it is signed out, and sync switches off.
What is deleted
Everything our server holds under the account:
- The account itself — including your Google account id and email address, if you signed in with Google
- The synced copy of your recipes, cook journal, collections, grocery list, meal plans and aisle corrections
- Every phone registered to the account, and the access tokens those phones hold
- The Google Play purchase token stored with the account to prove your subscription
Your recipes stay on your own phone: deleting the account is not the same as deleting your cookbook. To remove those as well, use Android's Clear storage option for Sorrel, or uninstall the app. One copy survives both, though: if Android's Auto Backup is on, your recipes, meal plan, grocery list and settings also sit in your own Google account, and would come back when you set up a new phone. Turning backup off in your device's system settings stops new copies, and on many phones offers to delete the existing backup at the same time. The Google One app can delete it too, under Storage → Backups, but be aware that this removes your phone's entire backup, every app's data along with Sorrel's, so use it only if that is what you want.
If you own a household
It is deleted along with your account, and sharing stops. Everyone in it keeps what is already on their phone; nothing of theirs is taken away. If you would rather the household carried on without you, open it in Settings and use Hand it over to make another member the owner first, then delete your account.
If you can no longer use the app
If you signed in with Google, write to us from that Google address and we will delete the account and everything stored under it, promptly, and confirm when it is done. An anonymous account is deliberately tied to no name, email address or phone number, so there is nothing we can match a written request against — but any phone still signed in to it can delete it from Settings.
Crash reports and cached recipe reads
A recipe our server read for you from a web page or a video is filed under that page's address rather than under you, and expires within 90 days. Crash reports are off unless you turned them on, and carry no identifier for you or your device; to have ones already sent removed, ask us by email.
